Performance Dynamics

A healthcare company dedicated to enhance the lives of rehab professionals and those they serve

Performance Dynamics is the healthcare company that researched and developed the innovative therapy known as ASTYM treatment. Headquartered in Muncie, Indiana, the company was founded in 1998 and grew out of a collaboration that included Thomas L. Sevier, MD, Ball Memorial Hospital, Ball State University and Midwest HealthStrategies.

Performance Dynamics certifies clinicians nationwide in the ASTYM system, and provides ongoing support and services to the Network of certified ASTYM providers. Our Network currently includes providers in 40 states, and is rapidly expanding.

Scientific and clinical research will always be an area of focus for our company. Our massive clinical outcomes database proves the efficacy of the ASTYM treatment. Our ongoing commitment to controlled clinical trials continues to keep the ASTYM system on the leading edge of effective soft tissue and scar rehabilitation, and we remain committed to expanding the applications of this remarkable treatment.

Thomas L. Sevier, MD

A physician with a new vision for healing

Thomas Sevier, MD, FACSM, is a self-described "ex jock" who suffered from persistent patellar tendinosis (knee pain) for many years. After playing college basketball, he graduated from Indiana School of Medicine in 1987 and performed his residency work in internal medicine and immunology. Dr. Sevier went on to do further sub-specialty fellowship training at Methodist Sports Medicine Center, studying musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

In 1995, he became the youngest physician ever to become a fellow in the American College of Physicians. That same year, he also became the youngest physician to be granted fellowship status in the American College of Sports Medicine. He established the first ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship in the United States at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

The nagging discomfort from his old knee injuries - combined with the huge number of patients he saw who were enduring similar chronic pain - led Dr. Sevier to become an avid researcher and innovator in the area of soft tissue rehabilitation. He felt strongly that "you just have to live with the pain" was not an acceptable medical answer to chronic injury. He theorized about how the body's natural healing mechanisms could be recruited to restore healthy tissue, gain function and reduce pain.

For 13 years, Dr. Sevier and his clinical team from Ball Memorial Hospital, Ball State University and Midwest HealthStrategies in Indiana worked in the laboratory and in clinical settings to develop a treatment system to heal the most frustrating soft tissue injuries. This process is now called ASTYM treatment - a revolutionary answer to scarring and chronic tendon problems. The treatment system was made available in 1998 with the creation of Performance Dynamics, the company that certifies therapists in the ASTYM treatment, and supports the national network of certified providers.

Dr. Sevier served as director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program for Ball Memorial Hospital, and as team physician for Ball State University. He writes extensively for peer-reviewed journals, scientific publications and books. He regularly has speaking engagements and television appearances regarding health and physical rehabilitation. Dr. Sevier is passionate about continuing to develop rehabilitation innovations for challenging musculoskeletal injuries.

My goal is to enhance lives by returning people to the activities they love to do.
