Astym Therapy Shortened My Recovery Period

I received a full knee replacement in January 2017 . During my recovery treatment, my back and hip flexor muscles tightened up making it difficult for me to walk. My therapist treated me with Astym therapy on various locations on my back and legs which helped loosen the tightness in my muscles allowing me to be able to perform my various exercises. The Astym therapy procedure considerably shortened my recovery period. Now I’m able to lead a normal life, walk for a distance, swim lengths in my pool and ride my bike for several miles. Thank you Astym therapy.

Astym Therapy is Great For Me

Astym therapy is great for me because it has been used on my shoulder and both knees. It helps with the scar tissue in healing and helps to get my muscles back in order. My Therapist Mona is a Great Person and helps me a lot. I can’t give her any gift, as it is not allowed but she is the #1 in my book.

Mastering Stairs/Riding a Bicycle

I have been suffering from chronic knee pain for many years due to various reasons not the least of which is arthritis damage resulting from previous injuries. I had total knee replacement surgery on my right knee on September 19. After some home health physical therapy visits, my surgeon sent me to APEX for more “aggressive” treatment. Up until this time, I had to take steps like a baby, couldn’t drive, and getting on a stationary bike was out of the question. On my third visit I received Astym treatment and was amazed at the changes, not immediately, but that evening I took my first stairs, down, one at a time, in more than several years. That was a milestone. I could also get in and out of the car easily and began driving again. I received another treatment on my next visit and soon added the stationary bike to my routine. My thigh is betting better, and I am not only reaching but surpassing my weekly goals in physical therapy.

I had never heard of Astym therapy prior to this experience but I can attest to the success in my case.

Astym Relief

I had been suffering with plantar fasciitis in my right foot for a very long time, years off and on. Sometimes it was so bad, I could barely walk. Those first few steps in the morning were incredibly painful. I have always enjoyed working out, running and being active. I would have to give up running for months on end at times and had to adjust my routine in the gym to accommodate the pain in my foot. I had seen a podiatrist many times, used custom orthotics in my shoes daily and had cortisone shots in my heel many times. Nothing seemed to work for long.

I began taking Pilates at Back2Normal to incorporate a good stretching routine into my weekly workout schedule in an effort to help all the areas of my body that were limited from tight muscles, including my foot. There I met Lisa Chase, who owns the facility and is an amazing physical therapist. She began treating me for my plantar fasciitis and some lower back pain. Lisa introduced Astym Therapy to my therapy for several weeks. It can be uncomfortable if you are already in pain, but I noticed a difference immediately after each treatment and after several weeks, my foot is almost 100%. I still have tightness if I don’t keep up the stretching, but when I begin to feel it tightening up, I make sure to get in and break up that tissue with some Astym therapy from Lisa. It has made a marked difference in my fitness capabilities and just my daily comfort.

Patellar Tendinitis No More!

4 years ago, 5 miles into a strong afternoon run, tragedy struck – I nearly collapsed in pain and limped across the street, calling a friend to pick me up. Since then, I’ve attempted running in various ways and at various speeds, never having any success at lasting more than a mile or two – and always with mild to crippling pain. Patellar tendinitis was an obstacle to my overall health and my enjoyment of life!

Astym Therapy is changing everything.

Recently, after signing up for an ambitious half marathon training program, I completed the first morning of speed training and was left nearly immobile – I was limping and couldn’t walk down the stairs on both feet. Typical.

An hour later I was in Lisa’s office for my first PT appointment, where she began her course of Astym treatment, followed by the recommended stretching protocol. Honest to God, I walked away from that appointment literally jumping for joy. By the following day I awoke with ZERO detectable pain. After ONE treatment! We have followed up with consecutive treatments and I have been able to increase my mileage and my training. I am actually running again.

I began running as a way to calm my mind and care for my wellbeing. I have lived with the stigma of having a bum knee for years, constantly being reminded of it’s intolerance for my eagerness to be active. I have regained a huge passion in my life, and I look forward to my first half marathon this November. Thank you, thank you for making this available to myself and others. This is a dream come true.

Making Fists

Today I made my therapist’s day, but only after she made mine. You see, I fell at the beginning of June. I have fallen in the past, but apparently I don’t bounce back any more like when I was younger. I made the mistake of catching myself on two hands and one knee.

What a disaster.

After going to 5 different appointments, a fracture was identified in Fargo in my right hand. but the full arm casting was unbearable due to my elbow being out of place in three places (unbeknownst to any of us). I went to the Park Rapids clinic, where they re-casted me properly, and splinted my left hand. Both hands had tears. When I got the cast and splint removed, they referred me to therapy with their Occupational Therapist, Denise Ristinen.

I was such a challenge since both of my hands were injured. Both were incredibly swollen everyday, and so very painful. I was not only unable to do much, if any, self care, I also was unable to do many of the usual therapy exercises since I could not help the other hand to do them. She continued to work with me to find ways to perform them in non-conventional ways in order to benefit from them.

Before I went to her, my normally positive nature slipped into becoming a weeper. She turned things around for me. Particularly when she tried Astym Therapy. I had not responded as she had hoped, although I was improving. I know that the intense swelling impeded my progress. Once I began to recover from that, she considered using Astym Therapy although my condition was different than they usually use it for.

Well, it is doing the trick. On Thursday 10/14/17 she gave me my first treatment. The next day, I suddenly became conscious of the fact that my right hand was clenched in a fist. It made me cry, but tears of joy this time. I had not been able to grasp much of anything for four months. Friday the 13th was very lucky for me. I was able to stop wearing the compression glove on the right hand during the day. The next Thursday she did a 2nd treatment. During the rest of that week, my left hand (the worst of the two) began to show signs of the inflamation ceasing. By the time I had my appointment today, I have been able to quit wearing my compression glove during the day on the left hand and it has almost no swelling. The right hand no longer swells at all. I only wear the glove on the left hand at night now,

When I saw her today, she dropped her jaw when I was able to make a fist with the left hand too. It isn’t as tight as the right, but now that I can close those pinkies, I can hold things in them again. the difference is night and day, and I finally have hope that I may be able to recover function again.

I was beginning to wonder, but Denise always assured me that I was improving, and her encouragement has been so critical in my healing process. She didn’t have much to work with, but when I brought her lemons she made lemonade and I love it. She turned me around. She said I will probably only need a short time more and I know she is right. What a blessing God gave me in her.

Restored to Mobility

Because of a fall, I suffered severe whiplash. I could not move my neck at all without extreme pain nor could I lift anything without suffering. I was in much distress as I could not sleep nor raise myself to get out of bed.

I felt relief after my first Astym treatment and more and more as I continued with the Astym treatments. I so wanted to get back on my bicycle again, as this was completely impossible after my injury. I now have total recovery, as there is nothing I cannot do, even riding my bike.

Thank you, LORD, for giving the knowledge needed to develop this wonderful Astym treatment. I am so grateful for the kind therapist, Jolene Hancock who worked with me to gain my complete recovery. GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Before Astym Therapy, My Life Revolved Around Pain

I had to plan my entire day with rest breaks after everything I did. I felt like I spent more time resting than I did getting anything done. It was making me depressed because I have 4 very active boys who always want me to join in the fun!

Since discovering astym therapy I am able to attend all my kids baseball games and soccer games, cheer in the stands and instead of laying down afterwords, we go for ice cream!

I was skeptical at first because I have tried many other forms of treatment but now I am grateful for not giving up and finding astym therapy.

Astym Therapy Got Me Back in the Game and More

TOPS Physical Therapy is the best clinic I have gone to!

I have played basketball for over 15 years (from leagues, travel ball, high school and at the collegiate level), throughout those years I have suffered many bumps and bruises along the way. With that being said, I have gone to a lot of clinics and no place gave me the type of care TOPS did!

In 2015 I suffered a season ending hip injury. The TOPS team went above and beyond to help me through one of the most challenging experiences I faced as an athlete. They helped me though every step of the way (going to office visits, and etc). By far the best care I have ever experienced.

While in their care, they had me on a great exercise program that really helped me get my strength back. Another thing they did was use Astym instruments, which if you asked me while they were doing it I would say it is not a fun time. But, the use of the instruments helped aid my recovery process! The use of Astym in my rehab assisted with breaking up scar tissue around my scars, tightness, and increased blood flow to that area. Astym also helped with myositis osscificanas (I had to look that up)! From allergy shots, I developed two small round hard bumps in my butt. Astym was able to break that up and get me back to normal.

I love Astym and TOPS Physical Therapy

Leg Pain: one Astym therapy visit and my pain is gone.

My cancer surgery left me with nerve damage in my leg. It felt like a rubber band had been placed around my upper thigh cutting off circulation. One visit to my Astym provider (a physical therapist) and my pain is gone. Try this please! It is a painful experience but at least when it is finished you can be pain free.
