I had been suffering with plantar fasciitis in my right foot for a very long time, years off and on. Sometimes it was so bad, I could barely walk. Those first few steps in the morning were incredibly painful. I have always enjoyed working out, running and being active. I would have to give up running for months on end at times and had to adjust my routine in the gym to accommodate the pain in my foot. I had seen a podiatrist many times, used custom orthotics in my shoes daily and had cortisone shots in my heel many times. Nothing seemed to work for long.
I began taking Pilates at Back2Normal to incorporate a good stretching routine into my weekly workout schedule in an effort to help all the areas of my body that were limited from tight muscles, including my foot. There I met Lisa Chase, who owns the facility and is an amazing physical therapist. She began treating me for my plantar fasciitis and some lower back pain. Lisa introduced Astym Therapy to my therapy for several weeks. It can be uncomfortable if you are already in pain, but I noticed a difference immediately after each treatment and after several weeks, my foot is almost 100%. I still have tightness if I don’t keep up the stretching, but when I begin to feel it tightening up, I make sure to get in and break up that tissue with some Astym therapy from Lisa. It has made a marked difference in my fitness capabilities and just my daily comfort.

Limping into the gym locker room, I spotted a flier advertising a new treatment available in town that would treat plantar fasciitis. After suffering from and attempting to treat this for well over a year, I was anxious to try something else. The medical doctor in town insisted on cortisone shots and was recommending surgery, and those were simply not an option. After several Astym treatments, the problem was solved on my right foot, but then my left foot developed plantar fasciitis. That foot is proving to be more problematic, but I was so relieved to have relief on my right foot, and I am certain my left foot will come around. I have also had Astym therapy to treat tennis elbow and back problems, and I am a believer in its ability to not only treat, but to solve problems without drugs and surgery.

I had a knee replacement in Jan 15 that did not go well causing constant pain and swelling requiring arthroscopy in Jun 15 to remove scar tissue. The joint was too loose and in Feb 17 I had to have a “Revision” or second replacement. Scar tissue has apparently been hindering my range of motion and causing increased pain. Swelling remained a concern to my physician and my Physical Therapists. An Astym-Certified Therapist has treated me 7 times with Astym therapy. I believe it has helped with resolving scar tissue, swelling, pain and range of motion. It has also improved the plantar fasciitis pain on my right heel. Last weekend I was finally able to do some gardening, planting flowers and attend a festival. I can walk much longer and no longer need the electric cart at the grocery store. I will recommend it to my neighbor who is having on going problems with his Achilles tendon.

Five years ago I had a flare up of my plantar fasciitis and I ended up on crutches. It was a very long rehab and very painful. Since that time I have had a laparoscopic knee surgery, two total knees and 1 revision of one of the total knee surgeries. I have endured lots of pain and discomfort but the plantar fasciitis ranks right on top of pain. It can be excruciating pain just getting out of bed in the morning and trying to walk to the bathroom. Most of the time I would have to stop and put on my tennis shoes before I could even take a step.
I am a nurse who works 10-12 hours a day on cement floors so when my heel started to hurt I knew that I needed to get on top of the pain early. It was starting to effect my knees and I didn’t want to screw up my knee, that were both doing very well since surgery. I called the physical therapy department at GPLHC and they said they had a great new therapy called Astym treatment that was having great results for plantar fasciitis, I was a little leary because I didn’t know much about this new therapy. I gave it a try, the first day I wasn’t totally sold because I have very ticklish feet and it both hurt and tickled at the same time. I seriously thought about not going back the next time but with each painful step I took I decided to give it another try. I have been going for 1 month and the pain is gone except for a occasional pain with getting up in the morning. I do my stretches and it really helps. I would recommend it to others with this same diagnosis. Renea Lembke was awesome, she is the best therapists. She gives the best messages around. She is very skillful with Astym therapy. I was very unsure about trying Astym therapy but I am back to working 12 hours of pain free shifts again. Thanks

I was receiving therapy for several months -6 for plantar fasciitis and after the pain not getting better my therapist wanted me to try astym therapy . I saw a difference immediately in the pain level, it was not gone completely but there were many times that I could actually be pain free for the first time and my pain level went from a 8+ to a 4 and I was able to walk again. If my plantar fasciitis were to occur again, I would definitely have astym therapy again and would recommend it to everyone.

I started to suffer from Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot last winter. It wasn’t caused by an injury, it just slowly started to bother me and got progressively worse as time went on. I went to a podiatrist for help but the inserts in my shoes really didn’t alleviate the pain.
Either way, I kept walking my dogs and going to exercise classes even though I had a lot of pain. Unfortunately, in one of the classes I did feel something tear in my foot so the instructor directed me to see Mary Rachford at Naperville Fyzical Therapy for treatment and I am so glad I went.
It was probably at least 6 months that I had been having pain, so I was relieved to finally know there was relief on the way. I started Astym therapy in August 2016 with Dr. Bill Block and he really did a good job. Astym therapy can be a little uncomfortable at first, but gets better with each treatment as my foot started to heal. I would go twice a week for 30 minute Astym therapy sessions and then another 30 minutes of strengthening exercises.
It took a full 12 sessions for me to finally be completely pain free. I am so grateful to Mary and Bill at Naperville Fyzical Therapy! They helped me to be able to walk my dogs daily again and get back to exercising!! I honestly could not walk normally because I had so much pain, so I am thrilled to be completely pain free!! I would highly recommend Astym therapy to anyone that is considering it. This treatment really works!

I have had difficulty and pain with walking/running for few years, and it got to the point where it was stopping me from doing my normal daily activities. After numerous doctor visits, and various treatments I still did not have the relief or answer to my problems. My foot pain stemmed from plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, over-pronation, and an old Achilles tendon injury I had suffered in my left foot/ankle. After finding what was causing me so much pain I directed my attention to stretching exercises, elastic support socks, and use of an arch support did not give me the relief I was searching for.
After going back to the doctor and expressing my frustrations, I was recommended to follow up with a physical therapist to consult and design a more specific exercise program. While at TOPS the evaluation covered multiple exercises for me to perform, that we much more advanced than what I had done prior. Dr. Brannon also included talked and introduced me to Astym therapy. I have been so very thankful and grateful ever since! It was amazing to me that after just one Astym treatment I noted the improvement I was searching for. I experienced a decrease in pain. After multiple treatments, I had finally gained control of my pain. But, through this I also discovered that I had a major increased functionality of my foot. Thank you TOPS for all you have done for me and getting me back even better!

I was seen for heel pain. The PT performed astym therapy on my heel and calf. After a few sessions was able to get back into walking without pain and getting back into running and to train for a marathon.

When I came to Diamond PT I had a lot of pain in the left Achilles tendon. The determination of tightness in the interior calf & thigh was the driving force behind the pain. The use of Astym therapy really helped the pain in my heel. I found that if felt best the day or two after Astym treatment & the therapy days without Astym treatment didn’t seem to provide as much relief or as long of relief. I can walk at a faster pace now than before, have less pain throughout the day.

Difficulty and pain with ambulation had been becoming worse for me over a period of a few years, and was limiting normal daily activities. It was determined that this difficulty stemmed, in great part, from plantar fasciitis, peroneal tendonitis, over-pronation, and strained Achilles tendon in the right foot/ankle. Stretching exercises, elastic support socks, and use of an arch support did not address the issue long-term.
Following my request for a physical therapy consult for more specific exercises, the therapist evaluation covered multiple exercises for me to perform. The evaluation also included a discussion about Astym therapy. I have been so very thankful and grateful ever since! It was amazing to me that after just one Astym treatment I noted some improvement with decreased pain. Subsequent treatment resulted in not only further pain control, but also in increased functionality of my foot. My over-pronation was completely gone, my arch was improved to normal, the Achilles was no longer tight… I was thrilled!
Maintaining functionality and independence as much as possible is so very important to me, and with this exposure to Astym therapy, I have that.
