So where do i begin? I will first start off by saying that I am not a very good writer but I wanted to share my story. I got diagnosed with AML (a form of leukemia) on Jauary 18th 2016. It took a toll on my body not that my body was great before then but its defenitly got my bones feelin frail. I went through 5 rounds of chemo. After i finished my chemo i wanted to continue to walk to help me loose weight and to get my exercise. I was so determined that i started walking 5 miles a day. I started getting pain in my knee, so much so that the pain would shoot up my leg and have me so squirmy to get comfortable. I was having trouble walking up and down stairs, in and out of the car, driving, and in and out of bed sometimes. I stopped walking because i was in so much pain afterward. A month had gone by and my pain was not going away. I didn’t really know what to do for the pain so I just endured the pain. I finally decided to go to the doctor. She ordered X-rays on my knee and ordered physical therapy. I started going to the OSF Center for Health in Streator, Illinois. Joleen Hancock was my therapist she suggested that I try the Astym treatment. She was certain that my knee cap needed adjusted. She proceeded with the treatment. I was very impressed the first time it was performed. Although it hurt like crazy and I screamed a little. I was in heaven as i walked out of there that day. It started working immediately and as treatment went on I loved going because i knew it would make me feel great. I encountered a few other things as it went on. I could feel the difference in my legs because I was only being treated for the right knee my left knee would feel so tight. I did the stretches with both legs but because I was getting my muscles worked out on the one leg you could feel the tightness in the other. I also started having troubles with my hip. So the therapist had to adjust me so that i was lined up correctly and in place. I also had to go back for therapy on my upper and lower back. The Astym treatment was performed on me this way as well. Again I would scream and Jolene would tell me ok lets not scare the other patients away. It helped me immediately. They gave me stretches to do and as long as I did my stretches I felt fine. I was able to start walking again. I haven’t met my goal of my 5 miles a day yet but I’m working on it. I don’t have any more pain in my knee. I can walk up and down the stairs no problem. Getting in and out of my bed my leg doesn’t hurt any more when i drive. I feel so much better like i’m rejuvenated. I can now get on with my life continue to stretch out these muscles and fight to keep my body in remission. I am so glad that I got to experience the Astym treatment and would definitely recommend it to everyone.

The astym treatment I received at Apex helped considerably in reducing unwanted scar tissue in my replaced knee area. The after surgery treatment lessened the healing time and has me walking with better pace stride and less pain.

I started suffering from an old knee injury last Fall. My knee was becoming a painful event every day. I talked to the physical therapists at TOPS Physical Therapy about treatment for my knee. They assured me that they could help me get back to normal, (pre Fall 2016) with treatment and exercises.
With confidence in their abilities, I started going to physical therapy three times a week. During the sessions, the physical therapist would use Astym therapy on my knee area, thigh and the back of my leg. I was amazed when they explained the process and how they were addressing scar tissue and adhesions. I am positive that this treatment contributed to the quick recovery from my knee pain.

I’ve been a runner for about 5 years; going from hating running to doing a couple 1/2 marathons. Running was something I loved to do. Every morning I was up at 5am to run before my day started.
My right knee started to become sore. I let it go for awhile just thinking it would resolve on its own; before I knew it I could hardly drive, put on my socks or straighten my leg after it had been bent for awhile. Finally I went to an orthopedic doctor who did an MRI and found distal quadricep tendonitis and a small partial thickness tear.
He referred me to PT (which I thought was odd, as how can therapy help a tear?) but I went and worked with a great therapist. She stated she wanted to try something called “astym” therapy; I had never hear of this but figured she knows what she’s doing so I agreed to the treatment.
The day following my first treatment I had NO PAIN! It was incredible! No pain walking, crouching, putting on socks or walking stairs. I thought this treatment was a miracle. The following days after therapy there was a slight “tinge” I’d describe it as, but going to therapy twice weekly for about 6 weeks it got less and less. Astym along with the PTs suggested exercises worked a miracle on my knee.
I am now back to running. Trying to take it slow (which is soo difficult to do) but not wanting that pain to come back as it seems unreal that it could be gone after how bad it had gotten. Astym definitely seems like a miracle treatment and something I would suggest to anyone with an injury similar to mine. :):)

I injured my acl in March 2016 and had to do physical therapy before having surgery and my therapist tried astym treatment after a few weeks and it made such a huge difference because I was able to walk much better after each time. After my surgery we waited a few weeks and my knee was very tight and once my dr cleared it then we were able to start astym treatment again and have done it a few times now and it has helped my pain and ability to bend my leg more.

I was having a lot of knee pain over the last year and a half. I was having pain while walking up and down stairs. I would walk just fine. I was sent to an orthopedic physician and he told me to do physical therapy and try out Astym therapy. I was about 2 sessions in and I could tell a difference in the pain level I was having. Now I am able to do stairs and steps just fine. I think Astym therapy is a great thing, I absolutely love how fast it works. I have a few more sessions and I will be completely back to normal.
