I’ve suffered from plantar fasciitis for over 4 years. One doctor put me in a walking boot for 6 months. It helped, but then a couple years later both feet were affected. My mobility went downhill and I had surgery in September 2017. The surgeon didn’t care about me enough to continue treating me and I finally started physical therapy.
My physical therapist worked with me until my incisions healed and then the Astym therapist started working on me. I immediately started feeling better and was walking by the next week. Not a lot of walking but I no longer needed my wheel chair to get inside the facility. I received Astym 2x a week for approximately 10 weeks. I am so grateful for this therapy and the continued support of my therapists!
I recommended a friend of mine that had knee replacement surgery a couple weeks before my surgery. She was still having ROM issues and pain. She went to the Astym therapist that had worked on me and was amazed at how fast she gained ROM and less pain. I am a firm believer in this therapy and will recommend anybody I know to this therapy and the therapist who is trained to do this. Truly amazing!

I arrived at DPT having acquired plantar fasciitis from what I believe was a combination of of flat feet and walking with very tight calves. (Nine months earlier I had a double knee replacement and since have been struggling with tight calves.) During my rehab for my plantar fasciitis I found the Astym treatment to work wonders on my heel pain. Almost immediately the pain in my arches decreased from Astym therapy. And now only 13 visits later I have gone from a pain of 6 to a 1.

I had been suffering with plantar fasciitis in my right foot for a very long time, years off and on. Sometimes it was so bad, I could barely walk. Those first few steps in the morning were incredibly painful. I have always enjoyed working out, running and being active. I would have to give up running for months on end at times and had to adjust my routine in the gym to accommodate the pain in my foot. I had seen a podiatrist many times, used custom orthotics in my shoes daily and had cortisone shots in my heel many times. Nothing seemed to work for long.
I began taking Pilates at Back2Normal to incorporate a good stretching routine into my weekly workout schedule in an effort to help all the areas of my body that were limited from tight muscles, including my foot. There I met Lisa Chase, who owns the facility and is an amazing physical therapist. She began treating me for my plantar fasciitis and some lower back pain. Lisa introduced Astym Therapy to my therapy for several weeks. It can be uncomfortable if you are already in pain, but I noticed a difference immediately after each treatment and after several weeks, my foot is almost 100%. I still have tightness if I don’t keep up the stretching, but when I begin to feel it tightening up, I make sure to get in and break up that tissue with some Astym therapy from Lisa. It has made a marked difference in my fitness capabilities and just my daily comfort.

Limping into the gym locker room, I spotted a flier advertising a new treatment available in town that would treat plantar fasciitis. After suffering from and attempting to treat this for well over a year, I was anxious to try something else. The medical doctor in town insisted on cortisone shots and was recommending surgery, and those were simply not an option. After several Astym treatments, the problem was solved on my right foot, but then my left foot developed plantar fasciitis. That foot is proving to be more problematic, but I was so relieved to have relief on my right foot, and I am certain my left foot will come around. I have also had Astym therapy to treat tennis elbow and back problems, and I am a believer in its ability to not only treat, but to solve problems without drugs and surgery.

Five years ago I had a flare up of my plantar fasciitis and I ended up on crutches. It was a very long rehab and very painful. Since that time I have had a laparoscopic knee surgery, two total knees and 1 revision of one of the total knee surgeries. I have endured lots of pain and discomfort but the plantar fasciitis ranks right on top of pain. It can be an excruciating pain just getting out of bed in the morning and trying to walk to the bathroom. Most of the time I would have to stop and put on my tennis shoes before I could even take a step.
I am a nurse who works 10-12 hours a day on cement floors so when my heel started to hurt I knew that I needed to get on top of the pain early. It was starting to affect my knees and I didn’t want to screw up my knee, that was doing very well since surgery. I called the physical therapy department at GPLHC and they said they had a great new therapy called Astym treatment that was having great results for plantar fasciitis, I was a little leery because I didn’t know much about this new therapy. I gave it a try, the first day I wasn’t totally sold because I have very ticklish feet and it both hurt and tickled at the same time. I seriously thought about not going back the next time but with each painful step I took, I decided to give it another try. I have been going for 1 month and the pain is gone except for an occasional pain with getting up in the morning. I do my stretches and it really helps. I would recommend it to others with this same diagnosis. Renea Lembke was awesome, she is the best therapists. She gives the best messages around. She is very skillful in Astym therapy. I was very unsure about trying Astym therapy but I am back to working 12 hours of pain-free shifts again. Thanks

I was receiving therapy for several months -6 for plantar fasciitis and after the pain not getting better my therapist wanted me to try astym therapy . I saw a difference immediately in the pain level, it was not gone completely but there were many times that I could actually be pain free for the first time and my pain level went from a 8+ to a 4 and I was able to walk again. If my plantar fasciitis were to occur again, I would definitely have astym therapy again and would recommend it to everyone.

I started to suffer from Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot last winter. It wasn’t caused by an injury, it just slowly started to bother me and got progressively worse as time went on. I went to a podiatrist for help but the inserts in my shoes really didn’t alleviate the pain.
Either way, I kept walking my dogs and going to exercise classes even though I had a lot of pain. Unfortunately, in one of the classes I did feel something tear in my foot so the instructor directed me to see Mary Rachford at Naperville Fyzical Therapy for treatment and I am so glad I went.
It was probably at least 6 months that I had been having pain, so I was relieved to finally know there was relief on the way. I started Astym therapy in August 2016 with Dr. Bill Block and he really did a good job. Astym therapy can be a little uncomfortable at first, but gets better with each treatment as my foot started to heal. I would go twice a week for 30 minute Astym therapy sessions and then another 30 minutes of strengthening exercises.
It took a full 12 sessions for me to finally be completely pain free. I am so grateful to Mary and Bill at Naperville Fyzical Therapy! They helped me to be able to walk my dogs daily again and get back to exercising!! I honestly could not walk normally because I had so much pain, so I am thrilled to be completely pain free!! I would highly recommend Astym therapy to anyone that is considering it. This treatment really works!

The problem I had was planter fasciitis. It sure made it hard to get up in the mornings and just walking in general. I wasn’t able to do my walk runs without any pain. For about a year. I kept thinking it would get better or that it was my shoes. I did try inserts in my shoes and changing my shoes after activities. I think it was about the third treatment and by doing all the exercises my PT doctor had me do it was really awesome to walk and not feel pain. Plus I didn’t look like I was a hundred years old walking around. I can go back now to my normal routine. I can go hiking again with no pain. Whoo Hoo! I would recommend this treatment to everyone that is suffering from this problem. The tools the doctor uses look a little weird but when he explains them to you then you understand why and how they are used. I also would recommend my PT doctor to anyone. The clinic I go to is called Progress In Motion in White House Tennessee. This treatment really works and I am truly thankful I received it.

I suffered with plantar fasciitis pain daily for 11 1/2 years. At times it was extremely painful. In the beginning, I had a baby learning to crawl, and I was crawling right along with her. I bought a chair to sit on in the shower. Over the years, I purchased dozens of orthotics (some custom), night boots, received physical therapy, ultrasound, e-stim, and other various treatments and medications. I found some orthotics that helped but I still had pain every day. Until my podiatrist referred me to the PT who used Astym therapy. I have been nearly pain-free for over a year! I sincerely never thought I would never be rid of plantar fasciitis. I can’t tell you how grateful I am.

After suffering with localized pain and throbbing for over 3 months – I was finally able to get past the constant pain and night throbbing after just 4 Astym treatments to my heel/foot/ankle area. Prior to Astym therapy I tried gel pads and orthotic shoe inserts with no relief. As an active father – it was hard for me to limp along to my kids sports and activities. Now after 3 weeks and 4 Astym treatments – my pain is 90% better and my flexibility in my foot as returned near 100%. I am not ready to run a marathon quite yet – but with the new flexibility and pain relief I have gained so far – I can at least keep up with the kids!! I am confident that without the discovery of Astym treatments – I would have had to resort to a referral to a Podiatrist for more invasive options for pain relief as nothing I had tried was working.
