02 Mar Hey My Shoulder Won’t Move? Astym therapy helped me!
I have never had an injury or joint issue that required physical therapy so this was an entirely new experience for me. I was constantly in pain. I could barely move my shoulder or raise my arm the limited range of motion and the pain was getting worse. After my second or third physical therapy appointment, I was beginning to understand how complex the issue was with the supporting muscles. At that 3rd appointment was when I had the first Astym treatment, it was good timing because I was desperate and would have let them do anything but also felt confident and in good hands. It is deeply uncomfortable but truly was the most beneficial part of the therapy.
I understood the relationship of tight and underdeveloped muscles contributing to the immobility of my shoulder. After the Astym treatment, I experienced less pain in my shoulder so I could really take advantage of my home exercises with less difficulty it was pretty significant right from the first treatment. I began to understand the target results of the Astym therapy so I got acclimated to the treatment quickly the short duration of pain (some bruising) outweighed the measurable improvement in my shoulder. I have worked hard with flexibility and strengthening exercises but without the added benefit of Astym therapy, I may not have had the same results.
