29 Apr Great Results for Plantar Fasciitis with Astym Therapy
Five years ago, I had a flare up of my plantar fasciitis and I ended up on crutches. It was a very long rehab and very painful. Since that time I have had a laparoscopic knee surgery, two total knees and 1 revision of one of the total knee surgeries. I have endured lots of pain and discomfort but the plantar fasciitis ranks right on top of pain. It can be an excruciating pain just getting out of bed in the morning and trying to walk to the bathroom.
Most of the time I would have to stop and put on my tennis shoes before I could even take a step. I am a nurse who works 10-12 hours a day on cement floors so when my heel started to hurt I knew that I needed to get on top of the pain early. It was starting to affect my knees and I didn’t want to screw up my knee, that was doing very well since surgery. I called the physical therapy department at GPLHC and they said they had a great new therapy called Astym treatment that was having great results for plantar fasciitis, I was a little leery because I didn’t know much about this new therapy. I gave it a try, the first day I wasn’t totally sold because I have very ticklish feet and it both hurt and tickled at the same time. I seriously thought about not going back the next time but with each painful step I took, I decided to give it another try. I have been going for 1 month and the pain is gone except for an occasional pain with getting up in the morning. I do my stretches and it really helps. I would recommend it to others with this same diagnosis. Renea Lembke was awesome, she is the best therapists. She gives the best messages around. She is very skillful in Astym therapy. I was very unsure about trying Astym therapy but I am back to working 12 hours of pain-free shifts again. Thanks
